Too often organizations and technologists experience project failures because they fail in the first step of effective transformation – empathy. Empathizing with the customer, the employee, the users, the partners, and suppliers of the organization. Empathy is the first step of problem solving. It is focusing on the humanity of the situation.
User and customer experience enrichment will ultimately provide value to all areas of life. Technology only has value when it serves a useful purpose and enables and enhances human activity. We develop technology to make work and life easier, more rewarding, and more fulfilling. If technology solutions do not contribute to that end, they solve nothing.
I remind the reader that no matter how cool the technology becomes, no matter how much maturity and evolution occurs, as John Zachman said in the foreword – “the human perspective will always be at the heart of the enterprise, albeit now or in the future.” In fact, in the literature about Japan’s Society 5.0 and other sources, the key characteristic of Society 5.0 or the Bionic Society is that, while it is super-smart, it is human-centric.
Soon, no organization, no area of human endeavor, no aspect of daily life will be able to escape the effects of the Bionic Enterprise. It is simply where we are all headed. As businesses, government agencies, customers, employees, and societies, we will all benefit. We will benefit from the continuously maturing user experiences driven by the intelligent capabilities of Bionic Enterprises.
As organizations learn to fuse technology to human activity at the deepest levels of interaction, we will realize improved outcomes for humanity. We will establish cognitive, emotional, and physical bonds with emerging intelligences, and technologies. Before this can happen, we must understand the concepts and the framework to re-tool organizations for continuous transformation. Managing change and transformation is essential to survive and thrive. We must learn to view our technological marvels holistically from an enterprise perspective. One that is focused on improving user experiences and the quality of life. The Bionic Enterprise framework© is a framework for the future society and it is powered by a bionic digital platform – the eco-system where everything happens.
